1st Test - S.Africa v Pakistan - Wanderers - Preview/Leadup

Real cricket starts again, with Test cricket at one of my favourite grounds.

Wanderers tends to be a result wicket - I make it, of the last 11 tests there, no draws,  thou, oddly, it's not a fortress for S.Africa, as they have lost 6 of those, winning 5.

Rain often tends to flirt around the wanderers, but, even if it rains, the drainage is so good, not too much time, is lost.

There have been thunder-storms in the late part of the day, for the lead up to the test, but, overall, the weather forecast is better, and, I don't think, more than 30 overs will be lost, if that.

So, given the bouncy nature of the wicket, and S.Africa's number 1 status, you would expect, an easy home win .. even if Pakistan are 100 % prepared/committed. They have only played 1 warm-up game, and news is just hitting the wires, that opener, Taufeeq Umar, has been ruled out of the tour. Imran Farhat has been announced as his replacement - and it's possible, a place may be found for Nasir Jamshed, who played so well, in the overseas one day games / warm-up.

Initial betting is :

S.africa. 1.57
Pakistan 6.8
Draw 4.6. And friendless ...

I could never suggest laying the draw at such a high level, but, suppose those that do, will win the money.

It's one to savour and watch .. I have a sneaky feeling, Pakistan may be underrated .. But, S.Africa have the class.

Wed Nite :

Extensive thunder storms, and generally a lot of the wet stuff.

Thursday :

Overcast, and locals expecting rain, some time during the day. A lot of this, may come outside the hours of
play, so, it may not matter, but, play may occasionally be delayed etc.

Cricket for Tv or Public ?

Readers of this Blog, should know a few things.

I hate the paying Public being treated like dirt .. In all manner of ways, but mainly non communication a the ground, and, being asked to pay, what can be considerable sums, for a game, that, at a whim, may be considerably shortened.

The ODI at Sydney, was abandoned, as the outfield was dangerously wet. To the naked eye, it didn't appear that much rain had fallen, but, maybe in part, that is the problem.

The T20 at Melbourne today, was interrupted by a brief shower .. No rain has fallen in the area, for ages, yet, the few mils that may have fallen, caused a delay in play, for about 45 mins.

This seemed plainly stupid, but, once again, it's a on-field call.

It would help, if threre were rain collection gauges, which were visible on the big screen, which would show how much rain has fallen, and, over a period of time, we would begin to understand, which pitches could hold water, and which couldn't.

I understand rain in the lead up to the game, would be a factor, but, there's no reason why this info, couldn't be measured/passed on as well.

Cricket authorities seem to want to restrict what info the paying public get .. Duckworth-Lewis calculators are not available to the general public .. How stupid is that ? And often go out of their way, to tell people at the ground nothing, about delays.

This totally pisses me off.

One day, I will institute a Megarain ground communication award .. For the ground that does the best, to tell people what's going on.

Maybe the cricket authorities, can't afford the technology.

Lets see if KFC or some other sponsor, could step up.

3rd ODI - S.Africa v N.Zealand - Potchefstrom

Dead rubber ODI, after NZ win the series.

NZ win the toss, on a 250 pitch

SA 1.44. .. On a good looking wkt. No Amla, Steyn rotated for Morkel, Pieterson also out .. For Phangiso.

I like a lay of SA, early on.

NZ finally scrambled to 259, making some nice run lines. It might not be so easy a chase.

(U can definately get under Steyns skin, .. And he doesn't always react well. Today, his 10 overs, went for 56, and didn't seem happy. .. 0 wkts.)

Lopsy got a 4 fer.

Market seems to favour SA, but, if Smith goes early, I could see plenty of panic.

As it happened, Smith gets a good 100, but, the game had plenty of twists, as the SA middle order, seems v inexperienced. (Ingram/Miller/Berhadien/De Kock/Faff) all had questionable dismissals ..

A last ball 6, gets SA home, when they needed 3 to win, 2 to tie. Some of the fielding from NZ was again v good, thou, they did drop one or two.

Nice to see 2 teams, clearly playing flat out, in what, was a dead rubber game.

Exchange stuff

So, finally, after many years of speculation, Ladbrokes have acquired Betdaq, for Euro 30M, roughly £25m.
The rationale behind the move, is stated, as being :

( I have just tried to copy / paste from an IPad .. Article, as as usual, the piece of crap that is Apple, doesn't work. I see their shares are tanking .. I hope they go bust, they are an arrogant company, who doesn't give a shit about customer service.)

So, I will have to do it manually.

Combines Ladbrokes global brand, with a scale able betting exchange. (Liquidity can hardly get much worse).
Accelerates Ladrbokes strategy to grow digital revenues.
Enables Ladbrokes to address the full spectrum of the broader sports betting market.
Further enhances Ladbrokes liability management, with more flexible and lower cost hedging. ( This is an important point. Hopefully, they will now route hedging thru the exchange, improving liquidity. I believe they had to pay Betfair, to read the data, on the site .. By, improving liquidity n Betdaq, Ladbrokes will no longer, need to review other sites as intensively )

It will be interesting to see how Ladbrokes integrate the exchange, with their High Street presence, and websites. It's possible, it could be a very useful dimension, which may give something for Betfair to think about.
Of course, it's also possible, they use the exchange to get information, of successful punters, and may limit shrewdies .. We shall see.

Crossing the wires, late in the day, was an announcement that Andrew Black (Co-founder of Betfair), has decreased his holdings from 8.87% to 7.58%.

This seems odd, as the current CEO, Breon Corcoran, and Alexander Gersh, both spent £300k, buying shares last month, at about £6.58.

Current Betfair Share price is £6.70 .. far, far away from the listing days, when £15 seemed achievable.

I wonder what he must be thinking now .. and what Betfairs response, if any, will be, to the changing landscape.

I cannot help but feel, it was a great opportunity missed.

2nd ODI - S.Africa v N.Zealand - Kimberley

You won't believe this.

Airport is 25 mins away, and I left 100 mins before flight was due to leave, and never even got close. Major accident on the highway, and everything gridlock, whilst the helicopter landed etc.

Re-booked, but, few flights to Kimberley, and will only get there, 90 mins after game has started .. Hope it's not a train .. Not the end of the world, as watched the Tennis, and had a few interests.

S.Africa definitely without De Villiers, and I hear Steyn also rested. Really want to be with N.Zealand, at decent odds. Hope S.Africa bat first..

Also lose Amla .. Quad strain .. Will miss last game, also.

SA win toss and bowl

NZ run line about 230

I have seen some highs scores here, especially in the inaugural IPL. It's a ground you can chase on.
Baking hot .. About 38c.

Ok, that's all folks ...pretty much, live anyway, as the Internet here is v weak, and keeps dropping.

This is my review of the game.

NZ scored a below par 278, which might have been more, but they lost wickets in the chase.

I wouldn't blame them, as much as the local comms .. Which had a right dig, at Mcslogger in particular. I think this is wrong, cos, it's a ground, lots of big chases have been done at, and I never blame a side for being attacking. Particular mention should be made of Kane Williamson, who scored a v decent 145,

SA were absolutely cruising in the chase, but, when Smith was run-out, the inexperienced middle order was exposed, and they allowed the run rate required to creep higher. I think this was a really below par effort by SA .. Sure, some of the NZ fielding was v good .. But, it's such a big ground, 6 an over, with 8 wkts in hand, is v achievable

. SA were 167-1 .. and found a way to lose .. Not encouraging, for the new team.

Anyway, the end result, is SA have lost the last 4 ODI's, and the series to NZ.

The ranking system, had SA as top, but if they lose on Friday, they will slip a long way down .. Shows u how much, the table, values current form.

The final game of the series, in Potchefstrom on Friday, becomes a dead rubber.

ODI - S.Africa v N.Zealand - Paarl

Watched some of the Aus Open Tennis, so, only got 3 hrs sleep. Have to leave for the airport at 5.30am ... Problems .. Car tire flat ... Will be touch and go if I make the flight, ... Expecting drab game, so, an excuse to go back to bed, wouldn't go amiss.

Made the flight .. But got lost going to ground .. Few signs ... iPad maps - what a piece of crap that is, can't locate Boland Park.

Clear day expected .. Hopefully not too hot, as it can be really baking in this part of the world.

S.Africa resort to there one day side, with N.Zealand also looking a slightly stronger outfit.

Hard to see it being a contest thou, and S.Africa solid favourites a 1.22

Well, that was how it normally goes .. But, let me tell you a story.

I am a fond believer in a strong work ethic, which, is sometimes at odds with the life of a trader ... and that chance favours the prepared.

In a different life, I used to trade horses .. Every day, I would get into the motor, and travel 1-2 hrs, just to ern a crust. This was a long time ago, before markets were as efficient as they are today, but, I could usually manage to win, lets say 20x a day, where x is undisclosed.

One day, in a week of bad weather, I had a 3 hr journey, to get to a racetrack. The 1st race was at 12.30, so, it meant leaving, pretty early.

I got up, turned on the radio, and wasn't surprised to discover, their was a track inspection, scheduled for 9.00. This wasn't much good to me, as it's. long jounrney, so, decided to start off, and try and pull over, after an hr.

I did this, only to hear, the 1st inspection was unclear, and a new one was schedule for 10.30. This was a problem. Do I decide to drive on, and probaly waste the petrol / time / effort. After much soul-searching, I did drive on,and got to the track at 12.00, to discover, the good news, the meeting would go ahead.

As I got out the car, I did notice it was very windy, but, gave it little thought, as my mind was on the Cornish pasties, this racetrack excelled at.

Anyway, the meeting went ahead .. And, in the 1st race, prices did not seem accurate. This rarely happens for long .. Efficient markets catch up, but, this day, they stayed in-efficient .. So much so, that I won .. 8x in the first race.

This was a good start, but, wasn't that unusual, so, gave it little thought.

The markets stayed inefficient in race 2 and 3, and now, I was really confused. I started questioning my software .. But, was winning, 35x, so, although puzzled, boxed on.

I got a phone call after the 4th race, from a colleague, asking how things were going. By this time, I was winning 50x, and explained this to my friend .. At which point, the penny dropped, when he told me, the high winds had blown away the Race Transmission transmitter, and all the country was both without pictures, and a lot of betting information.

I went on, that day, to win 80x, ... 4 times the norm, and I just use this story, as a guide, to what can happen, when normally efficient markets, get distorted.

Back to the cricket.

At the game S.Africa scored a below par ?, 208. It's a bit debateble if its below par, as .. Average score batting 1st there, is 187 ..but, there haven't been that many games there, and last yr, S.Africa scored 300 against Sri Lanka.

I only just managed to get to the game, after a few mishaps in the morning, with the inclement weather, causing delays. I made it .. When, I could just as easily, have decided to bail, and watch India v England, and the Big Bash final on tv.

During the chase, at one stage NZ were 35-3, and priced at about 1.34, which for the non-traders, means NZ would be expected to win 1 game in 3.

For a bizzarre 10 minute period, the NZ price, crashed to 1.25, then 1.16, then 1.10. At 1.10 you are basically saying NZ would win the game, once, in 10, which, I am sure they would be v unhappy about, and was clearly wrong.

I did not know why the market had become so inefficient. I could understand, other cricket was being played .. Even more high profile games, so, many traders would be focused elsewhere, but, this was a massive move.

Twitter is a superb tool, to discover what's happening .. And a few tweets, quickly established TV pictures were being interrupted, at which point, the general power at the cricket ground, failed.

Now, if u are a trader, and, suddenly .. Lets make an analogy :

If bread is normally £1.00 a loaf .. And suddenly, it becomes 40p, what do you do ?

You might want to to buy a great deal, but, you have to both store it, and then sell it, before it goes stale. In the same way, a price for a cricket match, can quickly go, from being huge value, to worthless, so, this is where staking plans, and esoteric discussions of Kelly ( a staking system, based on edge), normally kick in.

Kelly will normally say, bet 2% of your bank. So, lets go back to the bread analogy .. Lets say, u have a bank of £1000 .. and u buy 20 loaves each day at £1, so u can sell them, at £1.10. (I know this only makes u £2 profit .. But, just bear with me).

Now, if the price of Bread goes to 40p, how many loaves should you buy ?

Many people will have different answers, and there is probably no right answer, although I could argue, there are some wrong ones.

Anyway, at the cricket, I had this opportunity/dilemma, and aggressively used it. Many times, I have gone the same route, only to find the bread is full of imperfections, and only fit for the birds. This time, I was able to hold my position long enough, before the market became semi- efficient again, and I could cash the profit.

On many occasions, I have gone the extra mile, only to get a kick in the nuts.

Days like these, make them more palatable.

Banks and Spread Thieves

If there is one thing, that might put me on Tilt, it's the huge fees, either seen or unseen, Banks and Spread betting companies, weedle into their numbers.

Spread firms, quoting on cricket, will often quote with a 15 or even 20 run margin, which is just pure theft, and if the FSA wasn't so toothless, would do something about it.

I have just discovered, the Barclays International Trader stock service, which allows u to buy securities on US exchanges, quote in $, but, requote in £, and charge a hidden 1.5% commission, when u buy .. And may even charge u again when u sell .. Didn't ask, just said I would be closing my account, when I heard of the first hidden charge.

It's all very well for the Barclays MD to want to Install a new culture .. Try putting it into practice. Basically, they want your money for nothing, charge for each trade, and rip u off, for exchange.

They will not get my business.

ODI - Australia v Sri Lanka - Brisbane

Aus in trouble. .. Pre - match, Aus 1.48, with Clarke/Warner/Hughes/Hussey/Wade all scheduled to play.

Aus 26-4 after 10 overs. Interesting stat .. Teams that lose 4 wkts inside 10 overs, go on to make 155 or so, on average.

Sri Lanka favs, 1.45 .. Which looks decent .. Thou Clarke is still in, and he had been the Aus run machine, for the last yr.

Have to back Sri Lanka.

Clarke goes !!

Aus 28-5 .. Maybe they can fit a T20 in after .. This is dismal.

6 down !

30-6 ... Sri Lanka 1.11 after 12 overs

35-7 .. After 15 overs .. Sri Lanka 1.05

Lowest ever total, by Aus v Sri Lanka, is 158 ... Looks like some record books need rewriting.

Kulasekera 5-21 off 8 .. Malinga on, to try get the tail.

Wade goes !

38-8 .. After 17 overs .. Sri Lanka 1.02 .. Looks free money.

zzzz

Fell asleep .. Aus Open Tennis/Poker/Cricket too much .. but woke up, to see Sri Lanka struggled ?, maybe, to 76/6 .. but got the win.

Won a bit.

Rake - Poker stuff

My local casino is pissing me off.

In $ equivalents, it has a rake cap of $20, for a $1/$2 NL hold-em game, which is a fucking great business for them, but shit for the players, who would see a maximum of $4 in a typical vegas game.

To top this, they have the following irritations :

You pay for All drinks

You cant eat at the table

No mobile device, can be on the table

They change the dealers every 40 mins, at .which point, they re-count cards/float. The dealers are basically newbies/and whilst not incompetent, not superstars.

So, the whole thing is really slow/expensive.

I think on balance, they can shove it .. and will stick to tournaments.

Big Bash Semi - Perth Scorchers v Melbourne Stars - Perth

2nd Semi-final .. Little bit overcast

Scorchers win the toss, and elect to field

Scorchers 1.71

Run line for Stars - 148

Hussey plays for Scorchers, with Marsh/Gibbs to open.

Have to back Scorchers, at 1.71

Nice move into 1.62 at game time.

Avg score batting 1st - 149

Stars 8-0 after 1, Scorchers 1.72

Stars 16-0 after 2, Scorchers 1.76. .. Bailing for loss ...

Stars 24-0 after 3, Scorchers 1.94 .. Have taken hit, with Stars now.

Stars 37-0 after 4, Stars fav 1.78 .. Book Red ..

Wkt - Wright - 16 from 12, Scorchers 1.84 ... Sigh ..

Stars - 40-1 after 5, Scorchers 1.69 .. Bigger Red book now ..

Stars 46-1 after 6, Scorchers 1.78 .. Few drops of rain, but shouldn't affect game.

Stars 53-1 after 7, Scorchers 1.83 .. Still with Stars 1.85 avg

Stars 58-1 after 8, Scorchers 1 87

Stars 63-- after 9, Scorchers 1.77 .. Fair base, but need to kick on .. white not playing big shots .. Dunno why, they have extra batters.

Stars 69-1 after 10, scorchers 1.71 .. Good bowling ..

Stars 81-1 after 11, poor over by Hogg, Stars fav 1.92 ..

Stars 96-1 after 12, Stars fav, 1.73 .. Can get out with profit.. So, reducing

Rain getting harder ...

Stars 132-1 after 14, Stars 1.29 .. Got v nice book

Stars 150-1 after 15, Stars 1.18 .. Hope they get 200 ..

Play suspended at 15.2 overs ..

If they don't come back, target will be 57 off 5, 111 off 10, 163 off 15

18 over game now :

D/L will Prob add 5 runs to score, Scorchers will lose 1 over of Power Play

Stars 1.15

Wickets lost in next 2.4 balls, irrelevant to wkts lost.

Wkt - White - 88 from 53, 159-2 after 15.3 .. Stars 1.18

Stars 162-2 after 16, Stars 1.19

Stars 173-2 after 17, Stars 1.19

Stars finish on 183 from 18, Stars 1.19

D/L needs some work. If it was. 5 over chase, it would be 56 or so, that can't be fair to a side, that has scored 10 an over, for 18.

If they dont come back, chase will be : 56 in 5, 109 in 10, 158 in 15.

Adjusted score, 187

Rain still around, maybe reduced overs ..

17 overs .. , but, covers back, .. If they don't get back on, Scorchers will go thru to final .. Which, would be sick.

139 off 13, looks like new target.

3 overs of power play

Here we go

Scorchers 5-0 after 1, Stars 1.23 .. Short enuf, will take some profit.

Scorchers 15-0 after 2, Stars 1.32. .. Gibbs does Hamstring .. No runner

Gibbs delaying game, and Warne not happy, as he wants game to get going.

Scorchers 23-0 after 3, Stars 1.25 .. Gibbs stays on .. Gone flat

Gibbs retried hurt - 6 off 5, Stars 1.21

Wkt - Coulter-Nile 0 from 1, Stars 1.13

Scorchers 27-1 after 4, Stars 1.11 .. Still flat .

Scorchers 38-1 after 5, so we have a match .. Stars 1.10

Scorchers 65-1 after 6, Scorchers fav 1.86

Scorchers 77-1 after 7, Scorchers 1.81 .. Shaun Marsh, 56 from 32

Scorchers 85-1 after 8, Scorchers 1.75. .. Need 54 from 30

Scorchers 99-1 after 9, Scorchers 1.36 .. Need 40 from 24

Wkt - Marsh 68 from 40, 101-2 Scorchers 1.71 .. Need 38 from 21

Scorchers 107-2 after 10, Scorchers 1.53 .. Good game, 32 from 18 - flat

Scorchers 119-2 after 11, Scorchers 1.28 .. 24 from 12 needed - flat

Scorchers 129-2 after 12, Scorchers 1.26 .. Need 10 from 6 - flat

Last ball, 3 needed to win .. Scorchers 1.92 ...

Wow .. No ball .. nd they run .. So, game tied, 1 ball left.

Scorchers win .. Good game .. Played Hussey/Marsh     ...     Scorchers get thru to Champions League ..and a home final.

Word for the day - Troll

An internet Troll, is decribed by Wikipedia as :

In Internet slang, a troll (pron.: /ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is someone who posts inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[3] The noun troll may also refer to the provocative message itself, as in: "That was an excellent troll you posted."

Success !!

After just 6 weeks, I have attracted my first Troll.

Calvin Brock, probably not his real name, as the man was a world class heavyweight boxer, has taken to copying my words, as if they are the cures to all evils, and posting them, as a comment.

I dont especially mind this, but, its normal for the commenter, to then actually .. say something .. but, this is where he falls down.

Maybe he will find an intelligent thought, maybe he wont.

We shall no doubt discover.

Do Profits matter ?

This Blog is visable for a number of reasons :

1.It keeps me focused .. like a 'dog' at racing, I often need blinkers, to keep me concentrating

2.I want to keep a record

3. Maybe, passive income, will somehow, be generated.

As readers of the Blog will have noticed, I play a fair amount of Poker (usually badly), but read a huge amount on what top poker players, are doing.

A Poker player, only earns .. when he plays. In the same way, a trader only largely wins, when he trades.

Side income, on both fields, is a plus.

Over the last 5 weeks or so of the Blog, I have had a very decent run. I havent given a figure, as, I am not
sure its relevent.

I might, if convinced its worth it  .. but, am not sure, current readers need that info.

The pic is of my Cat .. who often has bets for me .. some win, some dont.

Big Bash Semi - Melbourne Renegades v Brisbane Heat - Docklands

So, this profitable competition reaches the closing stages.

Renegades only lost 1 game from 8, Heat won 4, so u would think Renegades would be highly favoured, and pre-toss, they are 1.73.

Heat have Pomersbach, who won the virtual play-off, while Renegades have Hales, who was so electric in the last game, despite getting off a plane, and Murali.

Initially, I like Renegades.

Heat win the toss and bat.

Run line - 153 initially, down to 150

Hopes, (Heat) injured in warm-up, misses, replaced by Burns.

Pomersbach 101 from 65, was scared of it, but did nothing ...

Heat 163-3 after 19, Heat 1.48

Have bailed for a loss .. Twitter haters, will be happy.

Heat finish on 183 .. That's a big score for a semi ..

Hated my book, pretty much from the 5th over, but couldn't get out, at anything like the right price. Taking the hit, and won't trade 2nd inngs.

2nd Test - S.Africa v N.Zealand - Day 3

Boring stuff, and the rain won't save NZ, as there isn't any.

At lunch, NZ already following on, as Steyn get a 5 fer.

Looks like being over in 3 days ..

Was wrong, lasted till morning of the 4th day, with a spectacular collapse from 182-4, to 211 all out.

Some great bowling as usual, but, the sad fact, is that N Zealand were just out gunned.

SA won both tests, by an innings and some runs .. Which is a huge gulf.

Port Elizabeth was pleasant enough, with just some rough weather, on the evening of the 2nd day.

3 ODI's start on Saturday, at the minor centres of Paarl, Kimberley and Potchedstrom.

Hope they are a more competitive.

2nd Test - S.Africa v N Zealand - Port Elizabeth

SA 325-4 ovenite .. some rain both yesterday evenng, and in the morning .. not too much, but a shower 15 mins before the scheduled start, means a 15 min delay.

SA carry on their merry way .. 451-5 after 133 overs .. not sure if they will declare after tea .. hope so.

Prices for the game .. £5 for the full day, £1 after tea .. hard to get cheaper, but ground not more than 1/3rd full .. even on a Saturday.

Big score .. 4th biggest since re-admission .. expect a declaration soon, as overhead conditions v good for bowlers .. well SA bowlers, anyway.

481-7, and they bat on. disappointed with Smith. Best score here, for 48 yrs. Getting colder, rain around.. hope it comes, to stuff SA.

505-7 at Tea - Elgar on 91 .. tough call for Smith .. only 5 batters been declared on, in the 90's. Looks like he will be given 2 overs or so, after tea, as no roller, during the break.

So, Elgar gets his 100 .. and SA dec on 525

NZ bat .. run line 265

At the close .. 6 down, for not many .. looks like another 3 day Test.

Some great bowling by Steyn/Morkel/Petersen .. some poor batting by NZ, but, this time, I would put it more in the bowling camp .. was really decent.

Pretty windy, with some rain possible.

2nd Test - S.Africa v N.Zealand - Port Elizabeth

Philander out with an injury, and an interesting fact, that S.Africa haven't won a test here, since the turn of the century.

Does that matter ?

Sometimes yes, sometimes not. Maybe the pitch doesn't help the balance of a typical S.African side, and maybe they are playing opponents who are so inferior, it won't matter.

It's hard for N.Zealand. They are not so bad, but, omissions from their best possible team, hasn't helped, and S.Africa are by my reckoning, the best in the World, by about 5%,

It gets cold, in Port Elizabeth, but, little rain is forecast, and it's just a question of how much of a fight, N.Zealand put up.

Pre-game.

S.Africa. 1.24

N.Zealand. 17.0

Draw. 7.4

Someone wins the toss.. Couldn't get ino the frigging ground, as ticket office off-line, and 100 paying public, treated pretty poorly.

S.africa batting .. Fire in distance .

At drinks .. S.Africa 45-1

Lunch .. Cold and windy - but no real threat of rain. SA 99-1 off 27 overs.

The odd chance, but, SA in control, on a pitch which will probably get slower and lower, as game progresses.

Drinks in the afternoon session .. SA 152-3 .. NZ been a bit unlucky .. Pitch definately doesn't seem to suit SA .. Price a bit low, at 1.25, but couldn't get involved.

Tea - still cold .. SA 191-3 .. 54 overs, about right - thou, with some luck, they could easily be 5 down.

Cricket saturation - random thoughts

I have had a few people contact me, on why I seem to always make profits. My general reply, is, that's the general idea ..

People who are not making profits, generally, are doing the wrong things.

There is so much cricket, u have a vast array of markets to choose from, and specialise in a form of cricket, u understand. A lot of the markets, have a bias, which sometimes is incorrect. To recognise which .. Takes some experience, but, u will get there, if u look hard enough.

I spend a lot of time reading, away from cricket, and am presently enjoying Barry Greenstein's book - "How I made my first Million from Poker".

In it, he tells, how important it is, to keep your mind fresh. With so much cricket, it's sometimes hard to keep awake, let alone, find new lines. I agree with him, 100%, that u need to take regular vacations, away from the TV, to avoid getting stale, and think about things. Your brain is a very powerful tool, but, it's often busy, doing other stuff. By switching off, u might get a "a ha" moment ..

Sitting at an airport, I just had a "a ha" moment.

It arose, as I was thinking about the value of playing random cards, against premium ones.

That's the only clue.

In future, I will assign a value, "F", to limited over games, and some Tests. F will always be a whole number. The 1st person to correctly deduce, what F is, wins .....

Big Bash - Adelaide Strikers v Perth Scorchers - Adelaide
