Ding Dong, the Witch is dead.

That gold was a sell at $1700 ..

I have been beaten up, by Golds rise, over the last 2 yrs, and .. the last qtr, has been pay-back.

Its now . $1350, and dropping fast.

The gold mines are in trouble, and expect more strikes/closures in many gold producing areas in Africa.

Gold has much further to fall, IMHO, but, I know nothing.

Equities have had a fantastic run .. its v possible, a correction, is coming.

Weather Watching Shares

Sad weather watchers like me, use many tools, to try and get info, which may or may not, lead to an edge, which also, may or may not, lead to profits.

Its not clear cut .. weather never usually is .. thou, some days, its easier than others.

Remind me one day, to tell the story, of the last day - SA v Aus, Wanderers 2011.

Anyway .. Betfair, have live video from some cricket grounds, and when TV goes off, saddos can often be found glued to it.

About a yr ago, I got interested in a company called Perform Group Ltd, who supply video feeds on certain sports, as well as in-running data.

Here is their chart .. from IG Index.

They have had a spectacular run .. and I cant help feeling, Betfair should have bought this company, rather than wasted .. on LMAX.

Blind Luck

I have some kids, and they have a hard time adjusting to my lifestyle/telling other kids, what I do.

There are obviously compensations. I get to spend long periods of time with them .. At times .. Anyway, and it's quality time .. I was stunned at the stat, that the average Dad, only spends 6 mins a day, with his kids.

When they watch me trade, I will often have a stock ticker, running.

2 encourage stock/share ownership, I encouraged them to choose a few shares .. And my 9 yr old, who is a decent thinker, went away, and came back, maybe 2 days later.

I thought he would choose a popular share, like maybe Apple .. And was fairly stunned, when his pick was a company called Take Two Interactive. Who the hell are they ? Is a fair question. It turns out, they make video games, with the best selling brand, Grand Theft Auto, in their stable.

I opened a spread bet, for £3 a point, back in Oct, when, they were 1136.6.

3 months later .. They are 1441.1, and he checks on his current £913 profit every day.

He hasn't really dabbled elsewhere .. For a few weeks, we held some Samsung (got some profits), and some oil shares, which are basically flat.

Stock portfolio - outlook

What to do with spare resources, is a theme not many have the need to contemplate.

It's fairly clear, if you are paying 10% paying interest on a mortgage, then, unless you have significant reasons to believe you can beat the market by at least 12%, you would be far better paying surplus monies into these debts, than going chasing other opportunities.

However, property .. And in particular, which location of the property, is not clear for many people, as this world gets smaller, so .. I do own a few shares.

My chief holding is Google, as I believe it has, as was once described, "the biggest moat, of any company". In my view, it has no competitors, and have been holding the shares, for over 7 yrs, from $400 up. It's now $700. For me, it's a long term hold.

I am very anti Gold, and have made significant losses/profits, over the last few yrs, as it traded upwards. At $1700 an ounce, I am a seller, but, understand, everyone has a diverse view.

I like smart phone providers, and picked up both Nokia and Research in Motion (blackberry), at distressed levels, a few months ago. They have made good returns, and have v important product launches in the new year. If they go well, the stocks will flourish, if not, in all likelihood, all they have left, are the patents.

Markets fluctuate, but, have a positive outlook for next year.

I will update my portfolio here, from time to time, but, everyone should do their own research .. And invest accordingly - consulting their financial advisor etc.

Facebook/888 Tie-up

Hugely interesting post, from Calvin Ayre, re a supposed tie-up, between Facebook and 888, for real money gaming.

I bought some shares, when I first saw the post, and they have mioved 8% today ..

If its true, and I have seen no other confrmations, it will be huge, for both companies.
